Update 7/25/12

Hello all.  Sorry I have been lax on the updates here but I haven't had alot of time to actually sit down at the computer for anything other than work as of late.  Susan asked me to update those of you who actually read this about where we are at this point.
As it stands now, we are getting down to the weekend of the reunion festivities.  The RSVP date has passed, however we are still taking the procrastinators (like me) and are looking for any RSVP's that are still hanging out there to get an accurate count when it comes to the caterer.
For those of you who may have misplaced your invitation and are still interested in coming on August 11, contact Susan or Amy as soon as possible.

Susan 304-723-0375 susanmadams@gmail.com

Amy 304-224-1389 amyyobbagy@gmail.com

Cost for the evening is $50 for Single or $95 for Couple

Ticket includes dinner and one class picture

There will be a Cash Bar available

Friday 8/10 join us at the Sports Court Lounge on Pennsylvania Ave at 8pm for the icebreaker

The Holiday Inn in Weirton still has rooms available at a discounted rate for us by using the discount code K87.  These rooms are filling up fast due to multiple reunions being held that particular weekend so make your reservations quickly at 304-723-5522. See earlier postings below for numbers to alternative lodging.

This will most likely be the last update as we get closer to the reunion itself.  I hope to add pictures from both nights to this blog as I have for the others in the past.

I look forward to seeing you all and catching up.

See you in 2 weeks.

Update 3/1/12 (list revised 4/8/12)

Well, I've noticed the blog has been getting some hits so it's time for an update.  We had a meeting last Saturday to discuss progress and kick around a few ideas.  The subjects covered ranged from who can we get as a DJ to what to wear to icebreaker ideas.  While nothing is set in stone except for what I posted earlier, some good ideas and good conversation was shared between the group.  Susan sent me the most recent list of classmates that we can't find for one reason or another.  I'm glad to see that classmates are checking this out.  The original idea behind the creation of this blog was to use the interent to make it easier for everyone to see what's going on in one place.  With the advent of Facebook, the Internet has really brought alot of people closer than ever before.  I'm not a fan myself so I dont have an account, however, I think the site will help spread the word about this blog and maybe more classmates will check this out to get the latest updates and information moving forward.

So, all you FB ppl and the rest of us who choose to stay in the background per se, you have some work to do.  If you know the whereabouts of the classmates below let us know...

I will be adding/subtracting to this list when I recieve information about the status of the missing so check back from time to time...

The where the !@#$ are you list, 25 years later: REV 4/8/12

Hello all...

Hey everyone!  It's been years since I've been on this blog I actually forgot the password.  Much has changed in the time since we all got together in Weirton.  Most notably for Weir High, the construction project that is currently underway for the new stadium/sports complex.  I noticed the new goalposts had been erected the other day when dropping off my daughter for basketball practice.  A new elementary school will also be constructed to combine and replace all the current elementary schools that most of us went to in town. The Cove School sight is being brought back to life as a small amphitheatre currently under construction.  Development continues at the former Weirton Steel General Office grounds to compliment the Wal-Mart that opened there a couple years ago.  That area will continue to grow in restaurant, retail, hospitality and light industrial fields as time goes on.  Weirton continues to rise up from the despair of heavy job losses that occurred during the last downturn in the steel industry and is on the cusp of great things related to the Marcellus and Utica Gas Shale boom that is beginning to take shape.  Weirton is dead center between both shale plays and could play a pivotal role in the industry as it moves forward.

On a lighter note, Weirton was heavily featured in a J.J Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration called Super 8.  Paramount had the run of the town while they were here and man what a fun summer it was.  Tanks rolling through neighborhoods, explosions, gunfire, move lights that made the night sky appear to be the middle of the day, sighting of "stars" real and imagined.  I'm sure all of us that are still in town has at least one if not many stories of their experiences during the filming.  Some of us were in it, many of us watched the filming as it moved through town each night. It was a pretty good movie and painted Weirton (referred to as Lillian Ohio in the movie) in a positive light unlike some of the crap they filmed when we were all in grade school/junior high like RECKLESS if you remember haha..  We made a positive impression on Paramount with our hospitality and they continually expressed their gratitude for all the help and patience the citizens provided them during their stay.

That's it, a brief summary of what's been going on in town up to this point.  I look forward to hearing what's going on with everyone, their families and where they are in life.  I will put the reunion info up as soon as I get the confirmed information.  Until then, feel free to comment on this blog and check out the links to the local news media, school websites and old posts and pics. Check back frequently over the months leading up to the reunion for current updates and contact information...

Here we go AGAIN!!!

Hello all, I will be updating info for the upcoming reunion very shortly. Check back...
